David Martin plays for Independent Insurance Consultants
KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) — You’re likely to see more of David Martin these days.
The former vol retired from the pro’s and moved back to Knoxville with a hobby, golf.
He says, “I like golf. I’m only 34, I’m young in life but old in football.”
We caught up with Martin practicing his swing at Gettysvue Country Club for the upcoming Memory Links Golf Tournament that benefits Alzheimer’s Tennessee.
“I feel like being here for good now and i am done playing football i can get out in the community. Whatever I can do to help I will do.”
Alzheimer’s Tennessee’s Kay Watson says, “Having someone like David we hope draws more people to the tournament and to the cause. Whether it is a goal to play in the NFL or its a goal to cure Alzheimer’s it’s important to have goals. And it’s really exciting that we can come together and work for this cause.”
David Martin is a role model in a couple of ways. His support for Alzheimer’s Tennessee for one. Secondly, for coming back to school at UT to get his diploma Bachelors degree in Sociology) after he retired from the NFL.
The reason, “For one I promised my mom I would and my father always taught me finish what you started. And, I have two boys.
I wanted them to see me finish and let them know, whatever you start, plan on finishing.”
The Memory Links Golf Classic is Monday, June 24.
